The right-wing extremist Identitarian Movement is building a new base in Steyregg near Linz. The community is not happy with that and is now defending itself with a colorful sign: In front of the new identity base, a protective path in the colors of the rainbow was painted on Thursday. The aim is to set an example for openness, thoughtfulness and tolerance, said Mayor Johann Würzburger (SBU).
In spring 2020, the identities bought an old house with a beer bar through a straw man, which is now being renovated. According to Würzburger, one – including the saleswoman – only found out afterwards who was settling in the old house.
The Office for the Protection of the Constitution is already observing
Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) then commissioned the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution to closely monitor the situation.
