After the success of his AI-operated DJ, Spotify continues to develop its products in the sector. Soon you’ll be able to generate entire playlists with a simple prompt.
This new feature of the music streaming service is currently only available in the United Kingdom and Australia, on Android and IOS devices. The playlists that you can generate respond very well, according to the company, even to the most specific prompts. Furthermore, if AI is used here, Spotify will not remake itself, and will still include what it knows about your tastes and musical preferences.
Generate playlists using AI
In the announcement of this new feature, Spotify explains that it will of course be possible to generate playlists based on simple criteria, such as a decade, or a musical genre, but the tool is capable of much more detail. The use of AI allows you, to cite their examples, to request “music to sing to my cat”, or a “soundtrack to face a zombie apocalypse”. Spotify explains that its new feature is most effective when given a wide variety of criteria, such as a combination of decade, genre, and mood. Examples of such prompts are suggested when you use the Service.
And for more customization, it should also be possible to rework the results given to these prompts, by swiping left to remove the pieces that you don’t like, or by adding a new prompt like “calmer” for example.
Such a service already existed, but it did not use artificial intelligence, and was therefore much more limited.
AI yes, but never without personal data
In order to make its functionality more effective, Spotify also explains that the playlists thus generated will be improved thanks to its personalization technology. In other words, the information that the streaming service already has about your tastes will also be integrated for a more personal result, as is already the case for generated personal playlists.
The company quickly jumped on the AI train, and its CEO, Daniel Ek, also announced to investors that new services using it could see the light of day. He thus imagines a way to synthesize podcasts, or of course to generate audio advertisements.
