On the German side – climber dies in an accident on Untersberg

On Saturday afternoon there was a fatal climbing accident on Untersberg: A 47-year-old climber from Nuremberg fell in the municipality of Marktschellenberg (D).

The man and his rope partner climbed the “Old South Face” on the Berchtesgadener Hochthron. The cause of the accident is still unclear: it is possible, for example, that the man slipped in his climbing shoes in the grassy terrain. Or that a grip broke.

The man’s rope partner made the emergency call. Two emergency doctors tried to reanimate the man from Nuremberg, but were ultimately only able to determine that he was dead.
