Sony plans to present new smartphones on May 17, evidenced by the announcement of an “Xperia Special Event” on the brand’s Japanese website. The Japanese manufacturer, which has considerably reduced its mobile activity over the years, is now focusing on its Xperia, available in three versions: the Xperia 1, 10 and 5. Their sixth iteration is expected in 2024, starting with the Xperia 1 VI and 10 VI, which should be the first to be made official. While waiting for this launch event, Android Headlines shares 70 visuals revealing the design of these two devices.

The Xperia 10 VI, positioned in the mid-range, sports in these images a back showing a vertical photo unit comprising two modules and an LED flash integrated directly into its shell, without black surround. The smartphone would thus lose a lens compared to the Xperia 10 V, which included a trio composed of a wide-angle module (48 Mpx sensor), a telephoto lens with Mpx.

The smartphone would also be equipped with a flat screen, a mini-jack audio jack, non-expandable internal storage and even a power button hiding a fingerprint sensor.

End of reign for the 21:9 ratio?

The images of the Xperia 1 VI reveal a design almost similar to the current generation. Android Headlines nevertheless emphasizes that the display ratio will change, thus putting an end to the reign of 21:9, used since the launch of the first Xperia 1, in 2019, and giving the Xperia their long format.

The site MSPowerUser provides some details on this subject, and indicates that the smartphone would switch to an Oled panel with a 19.5:9 ratio. It would also gain an adaptive refresh rate 1-120 Hz thanks to the use of LTPO, and increased brightness. It would be 1.5 times larger than that of the Xperia 1 V screen.

Our colleagues provide some additional details on the Xperia 1 VI technical sheet, information which should obviously be taken with a pinch of salt. The smartphone, which would be classified in the world of premium products, would thus feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, succeeding the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 of the Xperia 1 V. The chipset would be accompanied by an improved cooling system including a vapor chamber, with the aim of “fight against overheating during prolonged use”. We would also find a 5000 mAh battery, like the Xperia 1 V, wireless/reverse wireless charging, and a triple photo block. This would be equipped with an Exmor T for mobile CMPS sensor accompanied by a wide-angle (24 mm equivalent), an ultra-wide-angle (16 mm) and a telephoto lens equivalent to an 85-170 mm , i.e. at a x7 zoom. Finally, we should expect that the Photograph Pro, Videography Pro and Cinema Pro applications will be grouped into a single photo application.

Sony would finally improve the audio part thanks to the addition of a new chip, delivering “an even more dynamic and clear sound experience” than on the Xperia 1 V. We also discover that the sound reproduction of the speakers would offer improved bass and clarity. It now remains to be discovered the price at which the Japanese brand will market its device, after an Xperia 1 V billed… €1,399.
