After blasting the superheroic genre with Kick-Ass, the talented Matthew Vaughn dusted off the spy film by adapting Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar comic books. Tracing his own path away from James Bond, Ethan Hunt or John Steed, Kingsman: Secret Service delivers a perfectly balanced cocktail of pop action, uninhibited violence (the controversial church massacre sequence), innovative gadgets, bespoke costumes and British phlegm, and in the process reveals a new star, Taron Egerton, which will shine thereafter in Eddie the Eagle or Rocketman. Praised by critics and the public, the feature film will launch a franchise, dug with a sequel (Kingsman: The Golden Circle) and a prequel (King’s Man: first mission, currently in theaters).
