One death to mourn – best record in Easter traffic since 2013

With the “Safe Action” the Ministry of the Interior and its police officers almost achieved a pleasing “Easter Miracle” this year. With 2,500 patrol cars, 350 motorcycles and 100 civilian patrols, the emergency services were constantly present on Austria’s roads. From Good Friday to late Easter Monday, not a single fatality was reported. In the evening, however, the bad news came. A 46-year-old racing cyclist drove down a pedestrian (83) in the intersection area in the Styrian district of Leibnitz, the elderly accident victim died.

Nevertheless, this year’s balance – with the comparison period in 2013 – ranks in the “bloodless top field”. “Our police officers who were on duty over the Easter weekend made an important contribution to road safety. Thank you everyone!” said Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP). Bizarre things from ViennaA bizarre case from Vienna shows how anger over speed measurements has apparently led to an expensive act of vandalism. Because in the Breitenleer Straße in Vienna-Donaustadt a still unknown Tempobolzer tried to destroy a radar box (see picture above). After the car driver had failed to demolish the glass pane of the box, he forced open the side slits of the device. Since there were hardly any people on the road around four o’clock in the morning on Easter Sunday, the “radar box hater” even went about the Setting fire to the cabin: He poured a flammable liquid inside and ignited the device that threatened to convict him. But without success. “Only the outer shell was damaged by the incident. The measuring device itself remained undamaged, ”explains the police.
