One man convicted – hundreds of pounds of narcotics – trial adjourned

Up to 135 kilos of cannabis flowers distributed: three men charged, one convicted.

Three men are said to have imported and passed on several hundred kilos of drugs. They were tried yesterday in Eisenstadt. From March 2020 to March 2021, the first accused is said to have passed on 61 kilos of cannabis flowers and five kilos of heroin. Furthermore, a 29-year-old is said to have distributed 135 kilos of cannabis flowers and a 26-year-old 38 kilos – the latter was sentenced to 20 months in prison. Not legally binding. He had already had a criminal record – the Vienna Regional Court had previously sentenced him to three years in prison. The allegations against the three defendants can be traced back to mobile phone chats that had been seized by international authorities. According to the prosecutor, the men exchanged intensive information about their business. The men admitted in court that they were active in the drug trade, but rejected all allegations. The first accused announced, for example, that he had only traded 29 instead of the 61 kilos of cannabis flowers he was accused of. He had not come into contact with heroin at all, it must have been cannabis as well. The other two also stated that they had excessively exaggerated in the chats. “Writing and speaking is not punishable. Showing off is not punishable, making yourself bigger than you are is also not punishable,” said the defense attorney for the two accused men. After the verdict against the third accused, it was decided in Eisenstadt to adjourn. The situation against the alleged masterminds will be reviewed again.
