One of Belgium’s most wanted criminals arrested in Morocco

One of Belgium’s most wanted criminals, sentenced to life imprisonment, was arrested in January in Morocco, Belgian federal police said on Saturday.

“On January 27, 2024, Moroccan police arrested Mohamed Aissa, suspected of theft” in Morocco, the federal police said in a press release. The man was also wanted by Belgian authorities to serve a life sentence and was on the federal police’s Most Wanted list.

Detained in Tangier

On May 20, 2011, two individuals committed a violent theft in an apartment on rue de la Montagne in Brussels. The victim of these acts succumbed to his injuries. One of the perpetrators was then able to be apprehended while the other, Mohamed Aissa, managed to escape.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for these facts on September 16, 2014 by the Brussels Assize Court. Wanted since by Belgium, he has been listed as Most Wanted by the Federal Police since the creation of this list in 2016.

The man is now detained in Tangier and will have to answer for his actions before a judge on March 1st. He will decide on the continuation of the procedure taking into account the life sentence to which the individual is subject in Belgium, indicated the Belgian federal police.
