One of the best films of 2003 will have a series sequel

According to Collider, HBO Max is working on a sequel to the 2003 Oscar-nominated movie City of God.

A sequel to City of God? Collider has indeed revealed that director Fernando Meirelles has just finished the script for a series derived from his feature film. The HBO Max platform will be the producer and broadcaster.

Released in 2003, The City of God plunged us into the heart of this Rio de Janeiro favela which was born in the early 1960s. outlaw who grew up in a violent environment but dreams of becoming a professional photographer.

On the other, Petit Dé, an eleven-year-old child who wishes for his part to become the biggest criminal in Rio alongside Tignasse (Jonathan Haagensen) and his gang.

Nominated for the Oscars in 4 categories and for the Golden Globes, this adaptation of the river novel by Paulo Lins made an impression on its release, for its representation of life and the violence that plagues these underprivileged neighborhoods.

This sequel to The City of God, which will therefore take place 20 years later, will tell us how the country has changed and what impact this has had on the favelas… even if racism and gang wars still rage there.

Filming for the series is expected to begin in 2023 for launch on HBO Max the following year. Hoping that Meirelles and his team will encounter less problems than for the first film…
