One Piece: Iñaki Godoy (Luffy) wants 10 seasons for the Netflix series!

Mexican actor Iñaki Godoy spoke about the future of the Netflix series “One Piece” in which he plays the main hero, Monkey D. Luffy. And he has a (very) long-term vision.

Last summer’s success on Netflix, the live-action series One Piece has been renewed for a season 2, filming of which should begin soon. The adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew have managed to appeal to a large number of Internet users, despite the criticism expressed by fans when the project was announced.

The series was, however, able to count on the unwavering support of Eiichiro Oda. The author of the One Piece manga was also personally involved in the production, going so far as to demand that scenes deemed insufficient be returned. The mangaka also established friendships with several performers in the program, and in particular with Iñaki Godoy.

The Mexican actor’s performance was widely praised, and some fans felt that he was simply born to play the role of Monkey D. Luffy. Absolutely passionate about the project, the latter also seems ready to make a long-term commitment if the series were to be renewed for additional seasons by Netflix.

Up for 10 seasons of the live-action series?

While around ten seasons would be necessary to adapt the entire manga (which has more than 100 volumes, and whose publication is still in progress), Iñaki Godoy confirmed that he was ready to shoot One Piece for “many years”.

To our colleagues from Teen Voguethe latter affirmed that filming One Piece is enough for his happiness, and that he does not feel the obligation to appear in “a million other things”. The Netflix series is therefore his main priority in his eyes!

The Mexican actor, however, does not rule out appearing in other projects, adding that he dreams of playing “someone who is horrible and loves being horrible.” During this same interview Iñaki Godoy confided that playing Luffy meant for him understanding the character, and how the latter manages to convince the people around him to go in the same direction as him.

Remember that beyond the live-action version, Netflix also offers the animated series with one episode each week. The platform is also preparing a reboot of the anime, titled The One Piece.

The first season of the series in live action One Piece can be found now on Netflix.
