One Piece: Will Sir Crocodile become a woman in the Netflix series? Showrunner doesn’t rule out fan theory

ONE PIECE

Netflix’s “One Piece” series could confirm the “Crocolady” theory from the manga and make Sir Crocodile a woman in season 2. There are already clues.

  • The “One Piece” villain Sir Crocodile is extremely popular among fans of the anime and manga.
  • Now a theory suggests that Crocodile will become a woman in the Netflix adaptation.
  • An older Crocodile theory shows that the series would not necessarily contradict the manga.

It was already hinted at in season 1 of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of “One Piece”: the Baroque company. Zorro was supposed to be recruited by her in Episode 1 and Vice Admiral Garp also knows about the powerful villain organization.

Already in season 2 of “One Piece” Luffy will probably have to deal with members of the Baroque company more often and Sir Crocodile, the Baroque leader and a former samurai of the seas, will soon appear in the series – but perhaps in a different way many fans expect it.

The first episode of “One Piece” begins with the execution of Gol D. Roger in Loguetown. In the audience we see younger versions of Shanks, Hawkeye, Smoker and also a woman with an earring who is not so easy to identify.

Many “One Piece” fans are sure that there is a deeper meaning behind this recording. Since it is known that Sir Crocodile was also present in Loguetown when Gol D. Roger died and was also wearing an earring, some fans assume that the woman is Crocodile. So Netflix would have simply changed the gender of the villain.

More precisely, in this way, Netflix would even confirm a theory that has been circulating for years that Crocodile was once a woman in the manga and anime.

These speculations are of course not proof, but “One Piece” showrunner Steven Maeda does not want to rule out the theory in an interview with IGN:

I have [diese Theorie] heard. I’ve been asked about it before, and all I can say is: read into it what you want. We thought a lot about the Easter eggs. Some of it is future planning, and a lot of it was, “Hey, wouldn’t it be cool if we saw this character?” We know that this figure was seen in the background, particularly in Loguetown at Gol D. Roger’s execution. […] A lot of love and care went into making things so that fans can say, ‘Oh, hey, that’s really cool.’ And some of it is designed with the future in mind. Other things are just fun stuff that fans will enjoy.

Of course, we won’t know for sure until filming for season 2 of “One Piece” starts and we find out who will play Sir Crocodile in the new episodes. Currently, the theory sounds quite sensible and wouldn’t directly contradict the manga, as long as at least the adult Crocodile is a man.
