One UI 6.1: Samsung’s future update will pamper your battery

Samsung’s S24 series should be unveiled in January 2024, but many elements, both in terms of design and its technical sheet, have leaked in recent days. We know, for example, that the Korean giant’s new high-end smartphones should run under One UI 6.1 based on Android 14, and that great care would be taken to the AI-boosted user experience.

According to leaker Tarun Vats, the Seoul firm could also introduce new tools intended to preserve the health of the batteries of its smartphones.

New tools which result in three different modes which would influence continuous charging (when your device remains plugged in all night for example) and therefore the lifespan of the batteries:

  • A Basic mode which stops charging at 100% then resumes it at 95%.
  • An Adapt mode that charges the phone up to 80%, then resumes charging to reach 100% just before your alarm goes off.
  • A Max mode completely stops charging at 85%.

Pampered battery, extended life

These three modes, and in particular Max mode, were not developed at random. This is also excellent news, and a way to extend the life expectancy of the smartphone. As a reminder, a battery charged to more than 80% and discharging until the terminal turns off will tend to age more quickly, which is why it is advisable to respect the 80-20 rule.

It is also possible, and preferable, to monitor the health of your battery. In the meantime, One UI 6 is arriving on a growing number of models from the Korean manufacturer, a deployment which will intensify in the coming weeks.
