OnePlus Fold: visuals, technical sheet… we know more about the brand’s first folding smartphone

The year 2023 promises to be important for the folding smartphone market, since many manufacturers are starting to offer their own model. After Google and its Pixel Fold (which unfortunately shuns France), it’s OnePlus’ turn to also offer a model stamped “Fold”.

It was Pete Lau, CEO of the firm, who personally announced a special event during the first half of August. A date that was obviously not chosen at random since the South Korean giant will hold its Unpacked 2023 at the very end of July. The opportunity to discover its new Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5, among others.

The leaker OnLeaks once again poured out on the OnePlus Fold by publishing renderings, but also details on the on-board technical sheet. As expected, the brand has decided to integrate components that are among the best on the market.

On the design side, we can expect a fairly conventional format, with fairly sober and elegant lines. Rumors point to an internal 7.8-inch 2K Amoled panel displaying 1900 x 2100 pixels, and an external screen (also Amoled) of 6.3 inches in FHD +. Both should benefit from an image refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Only the internal screen seems compatible with LTPO technology, but this remains to be confirmed. We notice the presence of the Alert slider button and a fingerprint reader on the edge.

Under the hood, we would find a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 coupled with 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB of storage in UFS 4.0 format. A configuration similar to the OnePlus 11, which should make it possible to offer an extremely fluid experience on a daily basis.

The autonomy, so crucial on these models, would be ensured by a 4800 mAh battery with support for fast charging at 67 W. The set will obviously work under Android 13 with the OxygenOS 13.1 overlay.

In photos, OnePlus would opt for a 48 megapixel main sensor (probably the Sony IMX890) with optical stabilization, a 48 Mpx ultra-wide-angle module and a telephoto lens based on a 64 Mpx sensor. At the front, we would benefit from a 32 Mpx sensor for the external panel and a second of 20 Mpx once opened. Suffice to say that the device should offer real versatility in photography.

No official date or price has yet been communicated, but we should know more before Samsung opens the festivities in July.
