Throughout the summer, the Alpine glaciers have suffered like never before. A protective layer of snow would have helped, but it didn’t come for a long time. Now the time has come. The snowfall not only reached the glaciers, some flakes even made it to around 1200 m. For example, it got really white on the Prodalp at around 1500 m in the Flumserberg region.

Early onset of winter?

The onset of winter in the mountains at this time of year is normal. The mean date for the first measurable snow in Arosa is September 16th. However, this year’s onset of winter feels early because it has been exceptionally warm for a very long time.
