Coming back to the unexpected disappearance of a useful feature, after the deployment of the latest “Feature Drop” update, Google has confirmed, without doing so on purpose, the existence of its future Pixel 8a.
It’s a “formalization» inadvertently that Google serves us this week. The firm confirmed the existence of its future Pixel 8a by returning to the unexpected disappearance of a functionality linked to the battery of its smartphones, after the deployment of the update “Feature Drop” Of March.
For context, with the Android 14 QPR 1 update, Google had introduced new battery statistics. In particular, they allowed the user to have a better idea of the state of health of this essential part. However, this useful information was removed without warning from Pixel smartphones a few days ago. What interests us currently, however, is the justification given by Google… since the group was (a little) too talkative.
The Pixel 8a is indeed in the pipeline!
On a page of his forum “Issue Tracker“, Google explained that this removal was intentional, and that these additional statistics regarding the health of the battery should in fact never have appeared on current devices. The firm, however, went further by adding that this information is only supposed to be displayed on the Pixel 8a and later models.
In response to what some users saw as an erroneous deletion, Google commented:We do not activate [ces informations] that on the Pixel 8a and beyond, it is therefore a WAI (Working as Intended)“. It remains to be seen whether this information will eventually return to the Pixel 7 and 8, or whether Google will actually be content to reserve it only for its future smartphones.
Concerning the Pixel 8a, the message is nevertheless clear: the device is indeed in the pipeline. According to the information we currently have, Google’s next mid-range smartphone will hit the market in the coming months and could be presented in May at the next Google I/O conference.
