Opel announces its strategy for electrification of its catalog. From 2028, the brand will only sell 100% electric cars in Europe. From 2024, there will be an electric alternative to each of its new models. This concerns both cars for individuals and commercial vehicles. In the first half of 2022 alone, 11 models will be electrified.
Your next car might be electric. Fully or partially. And it would be a sensible decision: from 2035, the sale of thermal cars will be banned in Europe. A deadline which obviously pushes all the manufacturers to accelerate the electrification of their catalog, even the most fervent defenders of the hybrid (Toyota and Renault in particular).

In January 2021, Peugeot announced that it would only launch electric models by the end of the decade. Has the strategy changed with the merger Stellantis, which brings Fiat, Peugeot, Citroën, Alfa Romeo or Lancia ? No, of course. But each brand has its own calendar. At Citroën, it is still time for experimentation, while at Opel, electrification is being carried out with full speed. From 2028, there will be no thermal launches.
Opel confirms the electrification of all its models from 2028
The German brand confirms this deadline in a press release in which it details some intermediate steps by the end of the decade. 1st big step: 2022. Before the end of the first half of this year, Opel will launch 11 new electric models, and some will be offered only 100% electric (while others will also benefit from hybrid engines. Among these “zero emission” exclusives, you will find recreational vehicles and vans such as the Combo Life, the Vivaro Combi and the Zafira Life.
Next step 2023. Next year will be released the electric version of the new Opel Astra. It will be named Astra-e and you can check it out in the official video below. Recall that the hybrid version was presented in September 2021 and that it will be delivered in spring 2022. The following year, Opel undertakes to present an electrified version for each of its new models. At the same time, the number of thermal models will be reduced. Four years later, Opel should have achieved its goal: a fully electric consumer offer. On the other hand, for professionals, it will allow itself a little additional time.
