Open-air museum – There is a disco evening in the museum for the 40s

This 40s won’t be boring: for the open-air museum’s anniversary there will be an 80s-style dance evening. At the same time, hard work is going on: construction of the new visitor center is about to begin.

If the disco evening for our anniversary in the summer is a success, then we will build our own village disco,” jokes the new director of the open-air museum, Peter Fritz. Before Fritz can turn this idea into reality, there is another construction project: the new visitor center in the entrance area of the museum. The museum had waited a long time for the groundbreaking ceremony that took place yesterday. The corona pandemic and nature conservation regulations delayed the start of construction. As things stand, the project will cost around 6.8 million euros net. The sum is borne by the state of Salzburg. The wooden building should have a net floor area of approximately 1245 square meters. It is scheduled to be completed in autumn 2025. A much more important number for the open-air museum is currently the 40s. It’s being celebrated particularly big this year. Under the motto “then-today-tomorrow” there will not only be the aforementioned 80s disco evening on June 8th, but also a diverse program surrounding it. Among other things, with two new exhibitions, special tours and a newly published book. There is also news from the management level of the open-air museum: After seven years, director Michael Weese will officially hand over his position to his successor Peter Fritz on April 1st. He previously worked as managing director of Schallaburg in Lower Austria for three and a half years. “The open-air museum is a jewel for me. Its special feature is the combination of cultural and natural landscapes,” says the neo-director. In the future, the focus will be on the latter through reforestation measures on the site.
