OpenAI has a new interim boss in Emmett Shear. A man who became known for a number of controversial statements.

Friday evening, OpenAI landed its boss Sam Altman in an operation that surprised absolutely everyone. But despite the weekend of conflicting information that followed, the board persisted with this decision by appointing a new interim boss, Emmett Shear. The co-founder of the Twitch platform is known for making thunderous statements about X from time to time, on almost all subjects, which can range from Microsoft to women.

Emmett Shear, the man with strong opinions

Sam Altman fired, it is a much less consensual personality that the management of OpenAI chose to replace him. Indeed, Emmett Shear has behind him a certain number of statements which should not be unanimous, and perhaps make working relations complicated.

The new boss of ChatGPT has in the past harshly criticized Microsoft, which is the sponsor of OpenAI, and in which he has spent more than 10 billion dollars. “ When I was an intern at Microsoft, for every salary I received, I felt like I was receiving payment for a small piece of my soul » he joked, for example, last July on X.com.

The one who described himself until this Monday in his biography of with strong opinions » had also explained, in a post dated August 15, that “ 40 to 60% of women seem to have fantasies of rape or non-consensual sex “.

A term-limited president?

The atmosphere is quite clearly set. Bloomberg tried to contact him for comments on these posts, but he has not yet responded. These thunderous statements aside, Emmett Shear has recently positioned himself for a slowdown in the development of AI. He is one of those, like Elon Musk, who fears the potential dangers of creating things too quickly.

However, it is not sure that he will be able to leave his mark on OpenAI. As can be seen in his biography For his part, Sam Altman is not yet clearly a Microsoft employee, which leaves his future unclear, especially with the pressure from employees wanting his return. Should Emmett Shear keep his boxes closed for now?
