All means are good to try to stand out from the competition. With its latest feature, Opera
focuses on originality.

In partnership with Yat, Opera becomes the first web browser to allow the use of URLs composed solely of emojis.

Emojis as URLs

It was a feature no one expected, but Opera delivered. The web browser now allows users to use emojis as URLs for “ bring a new level of creativity to the internet “Explains the company in its official press release. It is therefore possible to access a site by simply entering a series of symbols in the address bar, without having to type either a letter or a number.

This new integration is part of a partnership with Yat, an NFT-based company, which sells sets of emojis that can then be used as a URL to redirect to a website. Symbol sequences still charged several thousand dollars, which can then be transformed into NFTs. For example, by entering “???” in Opera, users land on singer Kesha’s page. Lil Wayne and Steve Aoki are also among Yat’s followers.

It’s been almost 30 years since the Internet opened up to the general public and there hasn’t been a major innovation in web links yet. People still use .com in their URLs “Explains Jorgen Arnesen, Vice President of Opera in his press release. According to him, this partnership will allow Internet users to ” to be able to express themselves differently and personalize their identity on the web. ” VSis new, it’s easier and more fun explains the company. It remains to be seen whether it will be easier to remember than a traditional address.
