Operation lasts longer – fire in carpentry: fire brigade has to empty the silo

Dangerous situation Friday morning in a joinery in Längenfeld in the Ötztal. A smoldering fire broke out in the company’s tower silo. The fire brigade was able to quickly defuse the situation. The operation will still last into the night hours.

At around 8:45 a.m., a worker noticed the smoldering fire in a high silo filled with sawdust. The fire triggered the sprinkler system. The worker sounded the alarm. The Längenfeld volunteer fire brigade was quickly on site and was able to defuse the situation. In order to be able to remove all embers, however, it is necessary to empty the tower silo. Tons of sawdust have to be removed from the silo. The police assume that the deployment of the 30 firefighters will last into the night. A technical defect was probably the cause. The fire investigators have started their work. The exact cause of the smoldering fire has not yet been determined. Based on previous findings, however, the police assume that a technical defect may have been to blame.
