It’s an unexpected declaration of love! Big favorite of the next Oscars, and often judged as serious or even snobbish, Christopher Nolan is a fan of blockbusters, and in particular of the “Fast & Furious” franchise.
Who said that Christopher Nolan didn’t have a sense of humor, often labeled as a great director with papal seriousness? It is true that seeing the worlds and themes addressed in his various films since his beginnings, we are not exactly in the register of comedy.
Guest on the podcast The Rich Eisen Show in 2023 in the wake of the release of his film Oppenheimer, he revealed, to the great astonishment of the audience, that he was a huge fan of the comedy Ricky Bobby: King of the Circuit, led by Will Ferrell, to the point of being incapable to skip if he came across it one evening while skipping TV programs.

We would be remiss if we forgot this tasty additional anecdote recalled by Varietywhich dates from December 2020. In the podcast Happy Sad Confusedhe declared his love for the Fast & Furious franchise, with a particular affection for the opus directed by Justin Lin, Tokyo Drift!
“I’m quite classic, I like the original of Rob Cohen. But I have a weakness for Tokyo Drift In fact. And Justin Lin’s sequels, as they get crazier and bigger and crazier and bigger, it becomes something else, but something that’s kind of fun.
I have no guilt for being a fan of the Fast & Furious franchise.” he adds. “It’s a great action franchise… Have you ever seen one? I watch these movies all the time. I love them. I’m surprised you’ve never seen one. It’s only in The later episodes that a specific arc and mythology develops. I would start with Tokyo Drift and look at it as its own thing.”
We imagine that this declaration of love went straight to Justin Lin’s heart. And that Nolan is already on the starting blocks to see Fast & Furious 11, expected for 2025.
