Google-backed company Anthropic is launching its own artificial intelligence rival to ChatGPT.

ChatGPT is on everyone’s lips today, with the launch of the GPT-4 language model. But the world’s most famous chatbot isn’t the only offering in a market where giant Google is looking to regain a foothold. And among all the initiatives launched, one has just given birth to the AI Claude.

OpenAI alumni on the job

ChatGPT. A name that gives cold sweats to Google, the company long considered to be at the forefront of artificial intelligence. For a few months and the crazy popularity of the chatbot, the Mountain View firm has been multiplying projects, like Bard, and trying to put AI everywhere to catch up.

It also finances partner companies, such as Anthropic, a company founded by former OpenAI employees. And the start-up, which received a $300 million investment last February from Google, is already starting to show results with the announcement of a new AI.

Taking the name Claude, the new chatbot is meant to be “ helpful, honest and harmless “. It was also designed in such a way as to disconnect it from the Internet, and therefore to make it an AI “ autonomous “.

AI made for safety

Claude has been tested during the previous months by several major partners such as Quora, Notion or the search engine DuckDuckGo, which has just presented its DuckAssist tool.

As a result, according to Anthropic, Claude would be less likely to produce harmful results “. A requirement that would in no way have reduced the quality of the technology, since at the same time, it ” would be easier to talk to [elle] “.

Like several other chatbots, it offers answers to questions asked, produces summaries, can act as a writing assistant or generate code. It is also possible to adapt the tone, personality and behavior of the AI, which comes in two forms: Claude, and a lighter version, Claude Instant.
