The European Commission has pushed back to February 22 the deadline for its decision on the planned merger of Orange and its rival MasMovil in Spain, according to an update published on the body’s website.
The previous deadline was February 15.
The European authority responsible for ensuring the application of competition rules generally extends deadlines while waiting for companies to provide the requested information.
The Commission is expected to give the green light to the deal, worth 18.6 billion euros, after the two groups agreed to sell a frequency to Romanian company Digi and give it an option for a deal of national roaming service, sources told Reuters in January.
