Order food: how high is the risk of infection? – Video

Ordering food has suddenly become much more than a comfortable luxury due to the ongoing corona crisis, because every now and then you treat yourself. For countless people, the favorite meal from a pizza box or delivery container is one of the few bright spots that still remain in the isolation at home. And even for numerous restaurants, which now have to fight for survival due to the necessary closings, delivering and picking up their food is the only way to make at least some money.

Feeling bad?

Nevertheless, the more the corona virus spreads in Germany, an increasingly queasy feeling creeps in. Is it safe to let other people prepare your food? If so many people are already infected with the virus, then surely many of them are also active in the catering trade, right? Statistically, this cannot be ruled out – but still no cause for concern. Experts agree that food with COVID-19 is extremely unlikely to be infected.

Why restaurants are closed

The fact that all bars, cafes and restaurants now have to be closed has nothing to do with the hygienic conditions in their kitchens – and a lot with the fact that it is practically impossible to maintain the necessary safety distance from other customers there. In contrast to the pizza delivered, other people are very likely to transmit the virus. For this reason, the delivery services have largely switched to cashless payment – and often simply place the food in front of the door without having to have contact between customers and messengers. In this way, interpersonal contact as a means of transmission is excluded, and you can enjoy the delivered food with a clear conscience.
