In 2022, 10 feature films are nominated in the Best Film category. With the film industry still impacted by the effects of the pandemic, the rise of streaming movies has been felt. Last year, Netflix was the most awarded studio with seven awards.
This year again the big favorite is a Netflix film, The Power of The Dog by Jane Campion with 12 nominations. The feature film has already won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival, the Golden Globes for Best Drama, Best Direction and Best Supporting Actor for Kodi Smit-McPhee and the BAFTAs for Best Picture and Best Director.
But CODA, the American remake of Eric Lartigau’s comedy, The Bélier Family, could create a surprise. Indeed, since the beginning of the year, the film available on Apple + has won numerous awards.
The feature film by Siân Heder (Orange Is the New Black, GLOW) won no less than 18 awards, notably for the adapted screenplay and the performance of Troy Kotsur (who plays the father) with distinctions at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, at the BAFTA and the Critics Choice Awards, among others.
Don’t look up by Adam McKay released in December on Netflix is also in the running for Best Film. Nevertheless this year, the majority of the nominated feature films were released on the big screen: Belfast, Drive My Car, Dune, Licorice Pizza, The Williams Method, Nightmare Alley and West Side Story.
