The 2024 Oscars have been awarded and there is a lot left to talk about. Whether it’s Emma Stone’s wardrobe malfunction or the enchanting homage to the heyday of haute couture: 3 fashion moments are sure to be a topic of conversation at the big film awards ceremony.

The entire film industry has been looking forward to this moment for a year: on March 10, 2024, the 96th film was held in Hollywood Academy Awards presented. In addition to happy winners, an “I’m just Ken” performance that will go down in the history books, and lots of emotions, it’s the looks that will stay in our memory. And some of them have caused a stir online.

Emma Stone charmingly covers up a wardrobe malfunction at the Oscars

Emma Stone, 35, is the winner of this year’s Oscars. For the second time she will be awarded the coveted Golden Boy award for Best Actress (previously in 2017 for “La La Land”). In her beautiful brocade look with voluminous peplum in delicate pastel green from Louis Vuitton, she looks simply stunning. But even a two-time Oscar winner is not immune to mishaps. While Ryan Gosling, 43, performs his Ken song on stage, Emma can’t contain herself and tears her tight dress before she has to go on stage to accept her award. When her name is mentioned and she has to go on stage, the overwhelming demands and emotions are written all over her face. While she was still running up the stairs, she tried to hold her dress together at the back and said “My dress”. The dress even becomes an issue in the subsequent press conference. The actress reveals to journalists that the Louis Vuitton team sewed her back into her gown. She is celebrated by fans on Instagram for her humanity and her charming way of dealing with fashion mishaps.

Vintage dresses set the pace

The Oscars are the night of vintage dresses this year. Both Anya Taylor-Joy, 27, and Carey Mulligan, 38, choose old haute couture looks that were specially tailored for Oscar night. Anya’s mermaid-look dress is a homage to Christian Dior’s Venus dress from 1949. The scale-like decorations on the replica are much smaller than on the original, but they are very similar in style. Carey Mulligan, on the other hand, opts for a dress that refers to the date it was created. Cristóbal Balenciaga’s iconic black and white mermaid dress was introduced in 1951, the same year Leonard Bernstein married his partner Felicia Montealegre. Carey Mulligan is nominated for an Oscar for the film “Maestro,” in which she portrays Felicia Montealegre.

Margot Robbie forgoes her “Barbie” moment at the Oscars

Throughout the press tour for the film “Barbie,” Margot Robbie, 33, presented one pink wow look after the other. But at the Oscars, of all places, her dress couldn’t be simpler. Admittedly, the black sequin dress from Versace is an absolute eye-catcher, but expectations were higher for her. Fans on TikTok are now suspecting that there could be a sweet strategy behind this decision. America Ferrera, 39, Robbie’s partner in the “Barbie” film, deliberately kept a low profile at all press appointments. In summer, only choose simple dresses to put the main actress in the foreground. At the Oscars, however, Ferrera is a nominee, Margot Robbie is not. The theory now goes that the two swapped roles for the evening and America Ferrera in the pink Versace dress is the actual “Barbie” of the evening.
