The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, expressed her “fury, anger and sadness” about the suspicions of corruption targeting the vice-president of the institution Eva Kaili. “European democracy is under attack”she said Monday, December 12 at the podium of the European Parliament, in Strasbourg.

“There will be no impunity”she promised, announcing a “internal investigation” to examine all the facts related to Parliament and to ensure that the institution is reformed.

“We are going to start a reform process to see who has access to our premises, how these organisations, NGOs and people are financed, what links they have with third countries; we will ask for more transparency on meetings with foreign actors”she added.
