our tips for a zen bedroom

Do you dream of a soft and harmonious bedroom? Follow the precepts of Feng Shui, an ancient Chinese art that will help you transform your bedroom into a zen and calming place.

What is Feng Shui?

If you want a house – and more particularly a bedroom – that improves the quality of life, promotes well-being and letting go, Feng Shui is for you. This Chinese art of living is based on the balance of the environment and the invisible energies of nature, with the aim of creating perfect harmony between man and the place in which he lives. His practice is based in particular on the concepts of Yin and Yang, earthly directions and the 5 elements (wood, water, fire, metal and earth).

For example, Feng Shui seeks the balance and complementarity of opposites (Yin and Yang). With you, the goal is to find this balance to achieve harmony and promote the good circulation of Chi, the positive vital energy. So how do you turn your bedroom into a real haven of peace? We give you some tips that you will need for this!

How to create a Feng Shui bedroom?

To allow the Chi to circulate well in the room, you must try to de-clutter the space as much as possible. For that, try to be the best organized. Everything should be stored in its place, and if possible in a bedside, a chest of drawers or a closed cupboard. If you have shelves, we recommend that you choose storage boxes to put all your items in. The result will be clean, refined and visually much prettier! Also avoid the mess under the bed and clothes lying around. In order for energy to move, it needs space.

  • Place your bed the right way

The arrangement of your furniture plays an important role in your sleep, and especially the orientation of your bed! This should not be positioned at random. Avoid placing it in the axis between the door and the window. In addition, the head of the bed should be placed against a wall and not under a window. Also, reserve equal spaces on each side of the bed to promote harmony in the relationship as a couple. If possible, the underside of the bed should be kept clear for the proper circulation of Chi. Be careful, a desk positioned too close to the bed can quickly become a source of stress. Likewise, the presence of many electrical devices may affect the quality of your sleep and your health. So think about all this before fitting out your room!

  • Favor subdued lights

To create an atmosphere conducive to rest in your room, the light must be subdued. Neon lamps and halogen bulbs are necessarily to be avoided, rather prefer bulbs that diffuse a yellow light and not white. Small low lamps placed on furniture invite softness thanks to a softer light. However, be careful with the choice of lampshade! Prefer models that reduce the light intensity, choose clean colors like white or beige and natural materials like wood. If you like candles, this is your chance to take them out!

  • Bring in natural light

The brighter your bedroom, the better! During the day, allow as much natural light as possible, and leave the windows open to facilitate the flow of life energy. Nothing should block the passage of daylight, so avoid colored, thick and / or blackout curtains. In the evening, for Feng Shui lighting, the light should be light, conducive to relaxation and the invitation to sleep. For example, a small bedside lamp will be perfect to bring softness and harmony to your room.

  • Choose natural materials

For a Feng Shui bedroom, choose instead natural materials such as wood for the furniture, and natural fibers, such as cotton, for bed linen or curtains. All these natural materials evoke harmony and softness and will therefore be ideal for your interior! On the color side, here too, choose clean shades for a cocooning and soothing room. Otherwise, as for a Feng Shui living room, the ideal is to play with the balance of yin and yang to create a harmony between bright and soft colors. Favor yin colors such as beige, cream, ocher, and white for the walls and add touches of yang colors (yellow, red, orange, plum …) for small decorative objects or cushions by example.

  • Opt for a refined and minimalist decor

The decoration of a Feng Shui bedroom should be clean and minimalist. No more objects on display everywhere, storage is welcome for a clear and well organized space. On your wall, prefer cool and rather soft colors such as blue or pale green, beige, ocher, pink or white. The bedroom is synonymous with rest and serenity, so forget about energizing colors like red, yellow or orange. Please note, plants are not recommended in all bedrooms of the house – including children's rooms – because they represent yang and are stimulating.
