Out of the ordinary: is this film inspired by a true story?

On the occasion of the broadcast of the film Outside the Standards on Sunday October 16, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on TF1, Télé Star reveals to you whether the screenplay for this feature film is based on a story that really happened or not.

Released in cinemas in 2019, the film entitled Outstanding, worn by Vincent Cassel and Reda Katebwill be broadcast for the first time unencrypted on French television on Sunday October 16, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on TF1. Directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledanothis feature film features the characters of Bruno and Malik, respectively embodied by Vincent Cassel and Reda Kateb. The latter are responsible for La Voix des Justes and L’Escale, two associations that have been working for twenty years in the world of autistic children and adolescents, that they help as best they can. They also train young people from difficult neighborhoods to supervise these cases “complex“that the medical structures refuse.

Bruno’s association is however in the sights of the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs, who accuses him of employing unqualified staff. Bruno has in particular set himself the objective of the professional integration of Joseph, a young autistic man passionate about washing machinesbut who regularly has problems with the agents of the RATP and the SNCF, because he cannot prevent himself from activating the emergency stop button of the metro. He manages to find him an internship in a company, but the entrepreneur cannot keep it because of his too familiar attitude with Brigitte, one of the employees of the workshop. Bruno also agrees to take care of Valentin, a young person with severe disorders, who must notably wear a helmet at all times to prevent him from hurting himself when he hits his head against the walls. Valentin ends up running away, and finds himself in danger as he walks on the Paris ring roadwhere it is recovered in extremis.

Out of the ordinary: all the scenes in the film took place in reality

The story and characters of Vincent Cassel and Reda Kateb are inspired by the work of two educators taking care of people with autism, as well as their existing associations: the Silence of the Righteous (in the film: the Voice of the Righteous) and the Relais Île-de-France. Scenes from the film have all been lived in reality, and the directors have played real supervisors and real autistic people in the film, which mixes reality and fiction. Olivier Nakache explains that: “It was unthinkable that we have actors who play young people with autism“.
