Outreau case: these sinister objects found during the search at the Delays

After the arrest of Myriam Badaoui and Thierry Delay, the police discovered a pile of horrible objects in their apartment. The Outreau spouses had pornographic tapes and sex toys.

The Outreau affair will forever remain that of a judicial fiasco. In December 2000, the four children of Myriam Badaoui and her husband, Thierry Delay, accused them of sexual violence. From their host family, all described acts of rape committed by their parents, who lived in this commune of Pas-de-Calais. Once the couple were arrested, the police conducted a search of their home. On the spot, they found several sinister objects. “This search will make it possible to find a very large number of pornographic cassettes, remembered Didier Beauvais, president of the investigating chamber, in the documentary devoted to the case and broadcast on France 2. We’re going to find handcuffs, lubricating creams… Anything you can imagine.”

A police officer at the time remembers having found on the spot “utensils, style dildos in fairly large quantities”. In police custody, Thierry Delay claimed that his objects were used simply by him and his wife in their “personal use”. After a river investigation, led in particular by judge Fabrice Burgaud, seventeen people appeared before the Assize Court of Saint-Omer in May 2004. Among them, seven were acquitted, ten were convicted and twelve children were recognized as victims. In 2005, six adults appealed and were acquitted. Four were convicted, including the couple. Myriam Badaoui was sentenced to 15 years in prison for rape, sexual assault, pimping and corruption of minors. Her husband, Thierry Delay, received a 20-year prison sentence for raping twelve children, including his four sons.

Thierry Delay sentenced again

In 2020, he was sentenced again for sexual assault on a vulnerable person and comments and behavior with a sexual connotation to two years in prison. Resident of the Pierre-Hanzel Center in Rieux-Volvestre, her victim accused her of having demanded sex in exchange for cigarettes and of having touched her breasts and caressed her legs on several occasions. One of their sons, Jonathan Delay, has agreed to testify in this poignant documentary. “We become guilty, yes. We are not told like that but it is the feeling that we have, anyway, explains the young man. And we go back to our lives as if nothing had happened, with this guilt. I was eleven years old at the time and we ask ourselves questions, all the same.
