If you bring your household into shape, you don’t always have to resort to aggressive cleaning agents – conventional household agents are often a good and cheap alternative. Below we explain how you can clean your oven with one simple ingredient.
If you want to clean your oven, you don’t always have to use aggressive cleaning agents. Household appliances can also be cleaned with simple household remedies. Baking soda, which can remove even heavy soiling, is particularly effective.
- To do this, first remove all the baking trays and grid rails from the oven. This makes it easier to apply the baking soda to the areas to be cleaned.
- Then mix a pack of baking powder (about 16-17g) with four tablespoons of water. Make sure that the consistency remains creamy and does not become too runny – then the application is most effective.
- Then apply the paste to the soiled areas and leave the baking soda to work for about 60 minutes. If your oven is heavily soiled, it is advisable to let the household remedy work for several hours.
- Finally, wipe away the baking soda from the stained areas with a damp sponge

Cleaning the oven: How to avoid soiling
- When baking or cooking with the oven, always use baking paper and casserole dishes that are sufficiently large and high. This will prevent food scraps from sticking to the walls or dripping onto the bottom of the oven.
- Always wipe away leftover food and grease stains immediately after using the oven. This means that residues cannot continue to burn in and can be even more difficult to remove afterwards.
- If you cannot remove badly burned-in areas with the baking soda, it is advisable to use special oven cleaners in some cases. However, these are often harmful to the environment and should therefore only be used occasionally.
