Presented by AMD as its processor the most modern, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D has already been the target of some renowned hackers.

Announced in January at CES 2023 and launched just yesterday by AMD, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D is basically beefy, but SkatterBencher overclocked it to push it a little further.

Note that due to various technical issues, we were unable to publish our test as planned. We are sorry for the situation and hope to be able to publish it next Friday.

SkatterBencher boosts its 7950X3D to 5.9 GHz

Through a long article relayed by VideoCardz and a video published on YouTube, SkatterBencher looked at the overclocking of the latest addition from AMD in order, in particular, to emphasize the differences he observed on the two Raphael chiplets of the 7950X3D.

Thus, the CCD0 (with 3D V-Cache) has a maximum frequency of 5.25 GHz and a voltage limit of 1.2 V. For its part, the CCD1 can climb up to 5.75 GHz and accepts a voltage of 1.4 V. In both cases, this remains below the specifications of the 7950X (5.85 GHz and 1.475 V).

We let enthusiasts check out SkatterBencher’s video to learn more about its process and how to circumvent the limits put in place by AMD. Know that finally, he overclocked his processor to 5.9 GHz for performance up about 9%.

Der8auer removes the IHS from its 7950X3D

However, these overclocking gains do not seem staggering to us, given the effort required for this result. Year after year, CPU overclocking gets harder and less satisfying.

The operation performed by the well-known German overclocker, Der8auer, also proved difficult. It didn’t take long to unbind its 7950X3D. Remember that this is the operation to remove the IHS (integrated heat spreader, or integrated heat sink) from the processor in order to benefit from better evacuation of the heat produced.

Unbinding a processor is not very complicated in itself, but you have to have the right small equipment, take your time and be very careful, because without its IHS, a processor leaves its extremely fragile cores apparent.
