Overwatch 2: Blizzard is open to collaborations like the one between Naruto and Fortnite

With Overwatch 2, the license is making a shift that will upset some habits. Between its new modes, its new characters, its new economic model… this second episode marks in a way a new beginning for the series and the way in which Blizzard plan to use it. With all these changes, we could say that the studio is watching what its competitors are doing and could be inspired by it. To the point of setting up collaborations as in Fortnite Where Warzone ? Maybe.

Soon pop culture characters in Overwatch 2?

In an interview with Game Informer, Jon Spectorvice-president of the license, says he is open to collaborations of this kind, taking as an example that between naruto and Fortnite :

We’ve seen some really fun examples of games working with other brands or other games. I’m a huge anime fan myself. I think it’s super cool when I see Naruto appear in Fortnite. I don’t even play Fortnite, but it’s awesome. And as we watch Overwatch 2, these are things we want to explore. If and when we do, one of our key values will be to do it in a way that is right for the Overwatch franchise. »

It is therefore not planned for the moment, but the idea is attractive at Blizzard. Given that this kind of collaboration is becoming more and more popular in free-to-play, it should therefore not be surprising to see some day some characters external to the lore ofOverwatch arrive in the second episode. But a priori, it is not for now.

The PvP ofOverwatch 2 will be available on October 4 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch. The solo part will only be available next year.
