Overwatch 2: Despite the bugs, a colossal number of players in 1 week for Blizzard’s FPS!

Available in free-to-play since October 4, 2022, Overwatch 2 had a hectic launch with many problems (queues, connection errors, latency, etc.) that the developers tried to correct as best they could. badly for the past 10 days.

A not-so-failed launch?

Today, Blizzard’s FPS is very stable at the server level but encounters still some bugs that one would have thought prohibitive for most players. It is clear that this is not the case since in 1 week, Overwatch 2 has accumulated a total of 25 million different players! This obviously takes into account new players and all those who have returned to this second opus since Overwatch, whether on PC or consoles.

False communication?

We have to admit that the hype has risen little by little this summer and especially in September before the launch: attractive visuals, eye-popping trailers and above all total accessibility with the cross platform and the free of the title. Everything was done to attract many new players and it obviously worked. The catastrophic state of the servers at launch (DDoS attacks or not) may have discouraged some, but today OW2 is far from being the “dead game” that some Internet users imagined.

Be careful though, some players have pointed the finger at the awkward communication from Blizzard about Overwatch 2. Between the bug of skins purchased via chat without compensation, the price of bundles in the Shop at a pseudo-reduction, the different in-game currencies or even a rather vague hero balancing roadmap (will they patch some before Season 2 finally or not?), the doubt settles concerning the future of the license. Especially since Overwatch 2 has always been “sold” as integrating a PvE mode as the main novelty and some have not understood that only PvP is currently available.

Anyway, it’s still good news to see that the developers are reactive on the bugs and that so many players are (re) taking a liking to this new way of playing Overwatch.

Unfortunately, if you’re new to Overwatch 2, it’s very difficult to throw yourself body and soul into Activision Blizzard’s FPS without having to huff your nose as there are so many things to do if you want to enjoy the title at 100 %… It is absolutely not new player friendly!
