Overwatch 2: Ranked Bronze 5 unfairly? A free bonus as compensation

Since October 4, 2022, the launch of Overwatch 2 in free-to-play, Blizzard’s FPS has experienced many problems, whether in terms of server stability, endless queues or connection errors. Fortunately, patches deployed quickly the weekend of the release made it possible to correct the difficult access to the game but other bugs appeared like the one making you buy a paid skin or the one on Torbjorn and Bastion. Either way, the developers are working tirelessly to provide solutions and a long blog post was released this October 13th to let us know what they were going to prioritize now.

Bronze rank in competitive play seems unfair to you?

Like many other players, you have certainly wanted to try competitive games since the servers are much more stable. After your 7 victories, your rank was then revealed and…surprise: here you are Bronze 5 while on OW1 you were at least Gold or Diamond! The meta has changed, of course, the characters too, but from there to go so low?

Rest assured, Blizzard has indicated that this was a big mistake that has now been corrected thanks to the patch of this night. Now a bonus is activated to allow you to go up a few rows more easily.

  • Many players were rated too low during the first week of Overwatch 2, so we are implementing a boost as players continue to play for those affected by this issue.
  • Players who were ranked too low could feel like they were stuck at that rank. Going forward, players should be able to move up the ranks on their first rank update, assuming they are meant to be higher based on performance.
  • Players who have not been ranked will not experience this issue after this patch.

No hero rebalancing until Season 2!

The other major information of this blogpost concerns the re-balancing of the heroes. The developers are aware that a few characters like Sojourn or Genji are monstrous compared to others but are overall happy with how they currently look. Balancing is planned but won’t happen until Season 2 begins in December. Only Zarya will be changed on October 25, during the big Halloween update.

After a maintenance causing a far too high ping last night, here is the patch note in French, what Blizzard plans for its next October update and which characters will be modified in Season 2.
