DDOS attacks overload the servers!
If the number of players is obviously in question regarding the catastrophic state of the Overwatch 2 servers, Mike Ybarrathe president of Blizzard, has just ruled on his Twitter account that multiple Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks were the main cause of their unavailability.
The teams are currently investigating to try to prevent these attacks as quickly as possible. Translation of the tweet in French: “Teams are working hard on Overwatch 2 server issues. We are touched by the enthusiasm of players and will continue to focus on fixing the issues so players can have fun! Thank you for your patience. Unfortunately, we We’re experiencing a massive DDoS attack on our servers. The teams are working hard to mitigate and manage it. It’s causing a lot of connection issues.”
To put it simply, this means that in addition to the mass of players wanting to launch Overwatch 2 to test the new features, a group of people (using bots) are currently targeting the servers on purpose to overload them.
