About fifty companies that were victims of the Strasbourg data center fire last March have come together. They are preparing a group action in order to obtain redress, mentions The echoes.
The fire destroyed a significant part of the OVHcloud data center. The stricken five-story building contained more than 14,000 servers. The disaster resulted in the total or partial shutdown of “120,000 services”, OVH mentions.
About fifty companies that have lost data are preparing a collective action with the law firm Ziegler & Associés.
Damages ranging from 10,000 euros to 1.9 million euros
The objective is to receive compensation for damages suffered. Damages which range, according to the law firm, from 10,000 euros to 1.9 million euros.
In this case, OVH clears itself of any “fault” and invokes a case of “force majeure”. OVHcloud, therefore, good prince, had consented to “commercial gestures” the day after the disaster.
The law firm, for its part, assures OVH of the absence of an extinguishing system in the building and that the “back-up backups were on the same server as the originals”.
The lawyers also believe that the “limitation of liability” clause does not hold and want to be taken into account “indirect damage” suffered by client companies.
