Too much clothing for too few suitcases – most travelers are probably familiar with this problem. Holidaymakers can get more out of it with a few tips and techniques. Here you can find advice on how best to store your luggage in your suitcase.

Roll clothes instead of folding them

If you roll your clothes instead of folding them, you save space in your suitcase. Another advantage is that there are fewer wrinkles and sensitive fabrics are protected. Packing cubes and panniers compress the clothes in the suitcase even more and also ensure order.

Most clothing items such as tops, jeans, sportswear and underwear can be rolled. Thick items such as winter sweaters or jackets are best folded on top of the other items in the suitcase.

Real rolls for tops, pants and dresses

When rolling it depends on the technique. Tops should lie on a flat surface without wrinkles. Then fold up about two inches of the bottom of the shirt. Then first place the left side towards the middle, then the right side. If the sleeves are longer, fold them back at the seams. Then the shirt is rolled up from top to bottom. Now loosen part of the previously folded bottom of the garment and use it to attach the roll.

Jeans and other trousers are folded lengthwise so that the legs lie on top of each other without wrinkles. Then fold the pants in half and roll them up from the bottom. It’s best to lay dresses face down and fold the sleeves back along the seams to create square sides. Then fold horizontally at the waist or in the middle of the dress. Then fold vertically and roll from top to bottom as tightly and neatly as possible.

More tips

Shoes should be placed in corners of the suitcase or under clothing. Apps that provide the right checklists for every type of trip and weather condition can also help when packing.
