Palestinian elections postponed until polling is “guaranteed” in Jerusalem

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced, on the night of Thursday to Friday, April 30, a postponement of the first elections in fifteen years in the Palestinian Territories until the polls were held. “Guarantee” in East Jerusalem, annexed by Israel.

“We have decided to postpone the date of the elections until (…) our people can exercise their democratic rights in Jerusalem ”, declared Mr. Abbas after a meeting of the leadership of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) on the legislative elections scheduled for May 22.
