Palestinian gunned down by Israeli soldiers in West Bank

RAMALLAH, December 23 (Reuters) – Israeli soldiers on Wednesday shot dead a Palestinian in the West Bank, Palestinian rescue workers said. The Israeli army said the soldiers shot dead a Palestinian who fired at them from a vehicle.

The soldiers were targeted as they searched for Palestinians who had been seen in the vicinity of the Jewish settlement of Psagot, the weapon said in a statement.

“The soldiers responded by opening fire and hit the assailant,” added the weapon, adding that none of the soldiers had been injured in the incident.

Palestinian rescuers said Israeli soldiers chased a car to the entrance of a refugee camp and then opened fire, injuring a man. They added that the injured was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Rescuers said they did not know whether the man had taken part in the alleged attack on Israeli forces. (Report Ali Sawafta Ramallah and Jeffrey Heller Jrusalem; French version Camille Raynaud)
