Barely released in early access, this title from Japanese studio Pocketpair is already an impressive phenomenon.

First announced two years ago, Palworld had aroused curiosity. It was a mix between a survival/construction game and capturing Pokémon (or Pals here), all with firearms that couldn’t be more real. The game has now been available in early access on PC, Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass for a few hours and has already recorded… more than a million sales.

An improbable mixture that is wildly popular

We had to think about it, and it was the Japanese studio Pocketpair who came up with the idea first. Construction/survival games are greatly appreciated these days. On the other side, Pokémon represents one of the most popular and lucrative licenses of all time. So why not mix the two, and add some local firearms into the mix? Here is Palworld.

Available for only a few hours in early access on Steam, Xbox Series and Game Pass, the title literally caused an earthquake. As we write these lines, it has already recorded more than a million sales, has exceeded the peak of 500,000 users connected simultaneously on the Valve platform and more than 300,000 spectators on Twitch. Truly mind-blowing figures.

We are assured that this is not a scam

Seeing a game more or less out of the shadows which is enjoying truly explosive success, we can’t help but think of a certain The Day Before. This was the title most present in users’ wishlists on Steam before its release in Early Access. In reality, it was nothing more than a pure and simple smokescreen, coupled with a dark scam.

Pocketpair assured in an FAQ that this was not the case. Palworld However, it is only in its very first day of early access. The game is therefore far from complete, but that has obviously not deterred more than a million players curious to try it. For the moment, there is no question of a release on PS5, but the studio could change its mind given this explosive start. If the development of the title continues well over time. The future of the budding trainers who hunt these Pals with AK 47s depends on it.
