It was time ! Many months after its launch, the streaming platform Paramount+ finally equips itself with modern broadcasting technologies for its series and films. On the other hand, like Netflix or Disney+, you will have to put your hand in your pocket to be able to enjoy it.

You would think that Paramount+ would announce this significant improvement with fanfare. But no, the streaming platform preferred to play it discreet by launching a new premium offer without warning. This comes in parallel with the hitherto unique subscription and offers, for a higher price, the opportunity to enjoy its content under better conditions. Despite everything, there still seems to be a way to go.

A premium offer to raise Paramount+ to the top

From now on, when you register (after a 7-day free trial), you will have the choice between these two packages:

  • Standard: 7.99 euros per month (or 79.90 per year): playback on two devices simultaneously, in Full HD;
  • Premium: 10.99 euros per month (or 97.99 per year): playback on four devices simultaneously, up to 4K UHD, HDR and Dolby Atmos for compatible content.

Both allow downloading to read content offline, while the premium plan allows more reading on multiple screens simultaneously. To enjoy series and films offered in 4K, HDR (HDR10 or Dolby Vision) and Dolby Atmos, you will of course need to have compatible devices and a good internet connection.

If you take advantage of or plan to take advantage of Paramount+ with the Canal+ Ciné Séries pack, note that as with Netflix or Disney+, it is the standard offer that is integrated.

An improvement that is still partial and imperfect

Beyond asking for 3 euros more per month (only Prime Video still offers 4K and HDR at no additional cost), this premium formula is currently imperfect for several reasons. The first is that it is not systematically indicated on the information sheets for Paramount+ series and films whether UHD, HDR or Dolby Atmos are supported or not.

In the case of media, there is no adjustment to choose a lower quality to relieve bandwidth. Finally, during a quick navigation in the catalog, we noticed that the works concerned by the advantages of premium seem to be few in number. The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live and the last season of Star Trek: Discovery, although they have just been launched, are for example not offered in UHD and are limited to FHD. Damage.
