Parcoursup 2022: launch in a climate of uncertainty on the March bac exams

WISHES – Terminale students can from this Thursday make their choice of orientation known on the Parcoursup platform. The formulation of these wishes begins once again in a period of uncertainty, while their specialty exams for the baccalaureate, scheduled for March, could be postponed due to the Covid.

Choice time has come for the hundreds of thousands of Terminale students. Registration for higher education opens this Thursday at 11 a.m. on Parcoursup. This post-baccalaureate admission platform, inaugurated four years ago, integrates all the courses recognized by the State.

Until March 29, candidates will be able to make up to 10 wishes (with the possibility of sub-wishes depending on the training), without having to classify them. They will then have until April 7 to complete their file and confirm these wishes. It is recommended, in order not to end up on the floor, not to make only one wish and not to apply only for selective courses.

For each wish, students must explain their motivation in a few lines. A “Future sheet” will also be sent to universities and selective training, a document which contains the assessment of the teachers and the opinion of the head of the establishment.

Specialty tests, a source of concern during this orientation period

For students, this registration session will once again take place in a climate of uncertainty, students not knowing whether their baccalaureate specialty exams, scheduled for March, will be postponed or not due to the Covid.

These specialty tests were born from the baccalaureate reform initiated by the Minister of National Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer. Accounting for 32% of the final baccalaureate mark, they are scheduled for mid-March and should influence admissions on Parcoursup. But due to the health crisis, their passage in March has never been implemented. A year ago, Jean-Michel Blanquer announced the cancellation of specialty teaching tests, favoring their obtaining continuous assessment.

This time, it is not a cancellation, but a postponement which is studied with the unions and the national council for high school life, meeting on Wednesday. Jean-Michel Blanquer accepted these discussions, requested by several organizations, during the mobilization day last Thursday.

We need to be told very quickly if we are taking the specialty exams in less than two months or not because even being a good student, it particularly stresses me out.– Ilyes, 17, in Terminale

If, according to several sources interviewed by AFP, the postponement seems inevitable, the date of the tests between March and June is debated. While waiting for decisions from the ministry which could be announced very soon, in high schools teachers and especially students are concerned not to “not knowing which foot to dance on”.

“We need to be told very quickly if we are taking the specialty tests in less than two months or not, because even being a good student, it particularly stresses me out”, launches Ilyes, 17, in Terminale in a high school in Bagnolet in Seine-Saint-Denis. According to him, “evacuating these events would also allow us to focus on orientation in Parcoursup”.

For Ruben Carius, president of the organization Les Lycéens!, “postponing these tests to June means adding stress and pressure, because there is already the great oral and the philosophy. It is also very important to have national and anonymous tests which count in our Parcoursup files “.
