After the National Assembly or even the Senate in recent months, it is the official site of the University of Paris 8 which has borne the brunt of a hacking for political purposes.

This unclaimed cyberattack was intended to send a hostile message against Ukraine against the backdrop of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict on Sunday May 21, 2023.

Looting continues on various official sites in 2023

If you follow the cyber news around the war between Ukraine and Russia, you will not necessarily be surprised to learn that a new online attack took place this weekend of Ascension. This time, it is the official website of the University of Paris 8 (Vincennes – Saint-Denis) which has been targeted. Rendered inaccessible from noon and for long hours on Sunday May 23, 2023, the site then only allowed viewing of a political message indicating in particular “ Long live Russia and France fuck Ukraine […] “. For the spelling lesson, we’ll come back.

In any case, this cyberattack adds to the long list of institutions and other structures targeted since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in France, as in other foreign countries. It should be noted in particular that the official website of the National Assembly was parasitized for a few hours on March 27, 2023 due to a denial of service attack claimed by the pro-Russian collective “NoName057(16)”. This same collective, still with the same methodology, consisting of overwhelming the servers of the targeted website with requests so as to make it inaccessible, had also temporarily blocked the official Senate website in early May.

Hacking, a little, but not too much anyway

As the action against the University of Paris 8 is not officially claimed as of May 22, 2023 at noon, the question concerning the origin of this hack remains. Indeed, unlike the usual methodology which simply leads to blocking the targeted website, the hacker(s) have indicated here, in addition to their political message… the web address to which the university moodle Paris 8 could be consulted.

It must be said that in this month of May already well underway and loaded with bridges, the partials are approaching, if they have not already taken place for certain subjects. Since Moodle is a very useful online educational tool for transmitting various courses and slideshows or keeping a calendar of deadlines up to date for students and teachers, it therefore seemed welcome to those concerned that it is always available at indicated.

Could the “hacker” thus be a student or even a teacher who wanted to get his political message across without jeopardizing the continuation of the last courses and the revisions of this key period? There is nothing to confirm this at this time. In the meantime, the situation seems to have returned to normal on the morning of May 23, 2023.
