” I‘absolute horror’ in a famous place for a walk in the capital: an investigation for assassination was opened after the discovery on Monday of part of the body of a woman in a bag at Buttes-Chaumont, a busy park in the northeast Parisian. It was municipal parks and gardens agents who made the macabre discovery in the middle of the day, the mayor of the 19th arrondissement of Paris, François Dagnaud, told AFP.

According to a source close to the investigation, the piece of body discovered corresponded to the pelvis of a woman. He was found in a bag in a grove in the park, according to other sources. No element allows for the time being to date the death of the victim, specified the parquet floor of Paris.

The prosecution opened an investigation for assassination and the investigations were entrusted to the criminal brigade of the Parisian judicial police.

After the discovery, the entire park was closed to allow investigations, added François Dagnaud. “The criminal brigade of the Judicial Police will carry out a fine combing of the park with dog teams. We will receive a requisition for the park to remain closed tomorrow “Tuesday, said the town hall of the 19th century at the start of the evening.

Park evacuated, safety cordon installed

The park was evacuated around 3:30 p.m., a passer-by told AFP, in front of the closed gates. She said she saw a security cordon at the bottom of the park, on the rue Manin side.

At the end of the afternoon, investigators, “judicial police” vests on their backs or equipped with a white coat were visible in the park, through the closed gates, noted an AFP journalist. Some entered a building located at the top of the green space. When questioned, officers coming out of the park said they had seen nothing of the discovery.

A resident, who came to “enjoy the sun in the neighborhood”, was informed by passers-by. “I thought I was going for a quiet walk, but it shocks me enormously: assaults, petty theft, that wouldn’t have surprised me, or a settling of scores in the evening in an unlit corner of the park, but cutting up a body, I don’t think not that it can be done on site, ”he told AFP around 6 p.m. in front of the park, which is still closed. A resident of the neighborhood explained that she had been informed of this discovery by her daughter. “I believe that this is not the first time that a body has been discovered in the Buttes-Chaumont, but a dismembered body is absolute horror,” she said.

The “green lung” of eastern Paris, the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont was created in 1867 under Napoleon III, who wanted to ventilate Paris. It is now frequented by many joggers, families on weekends or partygoers who appreciate its trendy bars.

With its lake, waterfalls and a cave, this English landscaped park, which extends over 25 hectares in the 19th arrondissement, was built on a former gypsum quarry, exploited until 1860 to build Parisian buildings. .
