Parish Results – National Templates: How Your Parish Voted – News

The Swiss voters have decided on three national templates. You can find the results by municipality here.

Rural cantons said no to the climate protection law

The Swiss electorate has accepted the climate protection law. Around 59.1 percent of voters waved the bill through. 40.9 percent opposed the law. In western Switzerland in particular, there were cantons with large Yes shares. Vaud and Neuchâtel scratched the 70 percent mark, in Geneva even 74.5 percent said yes.

It also became clear during the voting on Sunday that only rural cantons rejected the law, namely Glarus, Thurgau, Appenzell Innerrhoden and the original Swiss cantons. And yet no urban-rural divide could be identified, because the law was not only able to win a majority in urban Switzerland and the agglomerations. This is probably one of the main reasons why, unlike two years ago, when voting on the CO₂ Act two years ago, the electorate set the course for a climate-neutral Switzerland by 2050.

Western Switzerland in particular supported the implementation of the OECD reform

From the beginning of 2024, large international corporations will have to pay a minimum tax of 15 percent in Switzerland. The implementation of the OECD reform was clearly accepted by 79 percent. In all cantons, approval was at least 72 percent. The highest approval ratings were in western Switzerland. In the canton of Geneva, the proposal was accepted with over 85 percent, as was the case in the canton of Geneva. In the canton of Neuchâtel, approval was over 84 percent.

The bourgeois parties and the large business associations were pleased with the clear yes. The SP, on the other hand, which had spoken out against the proposal, spoke of a “clear defeat” for the party in view of the clear result.

Great joy among the Covid 19 law supporters

The Swiss electorate clearly accepts the Covid-19 law with 61.9 percent. The Yes Committee is pleased with the clear approval at the ballot box. National Councilor Lorenz Hess (Mitte/BE) was not surprised that there was a yes, but: “I’m surprised that it was so clear the third time,” Hess told SRF.

Roland Bühlmann, Co-President of the Friends of the Constitution, was disappointed with the outcome of the vote. For the friends of the constitution, who helped launch the referendum, the result is a respectable success, especially when he compares the result with the previous results: “It’s still 40 percent,” although most of the media and politicians would have been afraid claims Buehlmann.
