Partial legalization of cannabis
Scholz has never smoked weed himself

On Wednesday, the cabinet is expected to approve the partial liberalization of cannabis. In an interview, Chancellor Scholz now emphasizes that he has never smoked a joint himself. Another politician, on the other hand, admits to having consumed hashish before.

Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz says he has never consumed hashish. When asked if he had ever smoked a joint himself, Scholz said in an interview with TV broadcaster Sat.1/Prosieben on Sunday evening: “No, never.” When asked, he added: “No, not even a single train.”

Regarding the planned partial legalization of cannabis by the traffic light coalition, Scholz said he had “very difficult” with it. But he believes “that we are doing exactly the right thing with this cautious step that we are taking,” said Scholz. “But if someone asks me should I or shouldn’t I, I’d always say, ‘Nope’.”

The federal cabinet approved the partial release of cannabis for private use on Wednesday. Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach had emphasized that the aim of the draft law was no longer cannabis consumption, but “we want to limit consumption and make it safer”. When asked, the health minister admitted to having consumed hashish himself.
