Pas-de-Calais: an octogenarian killed by the explosion of a shell

An octogenarian died on Saturday after handling a shell at his home in Transloy (Pas-de-Calais), where a stock of shells was then discovered, AFP learned from firefighters and the prefecture.

This man was 81 years old, according to the firefighters, who intervened in this village of about 400 inhabitants. “At his home, we discovered other shells”, explained to AFP the chief of staff of the prefect of Pas-de-Calais, Emmanuel Cayron. The gendarmes asked for the support of the deminers and a security perimeter was established around the home of the octogenarian.
