Jack Lang and Robert Badinter knew each other particularly well, since they were both part of the government under the presidency of François Mitterrand in the 1980s. In the show Pascal Praud and you, the former Minister of Culture paid tribute to his Justice counterpart, the architect of the abolition of the death penalty in 1981 and who died on the night of Thursday to Friday. “He knew better than others how to express his attachment to freedom. I would say that to say the very name of Robert Badinter is to say the word ‘freedom’ (…). The abolition of the death penalty has was a very strong moment in the life of the country. Robert Badinter has become legendary, he is a legend.”
