As you know, Delphine Sofware and Adeline Software, who offered us creations like Les Voyageurs du Temps, Another World, Flashback, Moto Racer, Little Big Adventure and Time Commando, took their names from the daughters of Paul de Senneville. On the sidelines of his life as an author, composer and producer in the world of music, notably on behalf of Richard Clayderman (Ballad for Adeline), Michel Polnareff (All the boats all the birds) and Christopher (Naked like the sea), Paul de Senneville founded Delphine Software in 1988, named after his eldest daughter who had already inspired his father when the production company Delphine Productions was created in 1976.
From music to video games, an obvious bridge for Paul de Senneville
In a report broadcast by Canal+ in 1995, Paul de Senneville explains that his motivation in financing the creation of these video game studios was to be able to establish a connection with the world of music. ” We think gaming is going to be a tremendous vehicle for music in the years to come. Because in games you can have people singing, dancing, it can really be a lift for the music, and I think that’s a chance not only for the composer but for the music in general. An avant-garde reflection to say the least at a time when, even if the CD format is on the way to becoming established, video games are still associated with the sounds that come out of the processors of 16-bit consoles and where we was a far cry from the kind of recognition that video game music enjoys today. In fact, Paul de Senneville’s connections with the music industry allow him to publish the soundtrack of Time Travelers (by Jean Baudlot) from 1989, one of the first video game albums to be released in Europe, according to VGDensetsu.
If the essentially economic role of Paul de Senneville does not allow him to enter the memories of players, Delphine Software does however bring out big names like Eric Chahi (Another World) and of course Paul Cuisset (Flashback) who remains the main designer of the studio’s games. Delphine Software filed for bankruptcy in March 2004, the same year as Adeline Software International, which was founded in 1994, again thanks to funding from Paul de Senneville, which allowed her to associate the first name of her second daughter. The studio will be known for Little Big Adventure or Time Commandoall directed in particular by Frédérick Raynal and Didier Chanfray.
A great fan of horse racing to the point of becoming a breeder himself in the 1990s with his Mauzun label, Paul de Senneville died on June 23 at the age of 89.
